Macetown: A real 4WD adventure. This ghost town from the gold rush era is now a Department of Conservation reserve, accessible only by 4WD. The road winds from river level to high above the Arrow Gorge, offering over 25 river crossings en route, ever-changing views, and the chance to gold pan in the Arrow River. Tours depart Queenstown daily at 8.00am and 1.30pm (allow 4 1/2 hours return)
The Motatapu Track Transport:
Nomad Safaris is pleased to offer transportation from Queenstown to the start of the southern end of the track. The start is at the historic, abandoned old gold mining settlement of Macetown. Access to this area is on the old Macetown Road, a 4WD track, and an adventure in itself. Pick ups from the end of the track with transport back into Queenstown can be arranged.
