Q: Is the swimming pool heated all year
A: No. It is heated with an air souce heat pump and depends on the local air temperature. Normally it is warm enough to swim in from May to October. We close it when the air temperature drops too low to keep it warm.

Q: Catering all meals of 40+ people is too much for me. What can I do?
A: You can hire our local caterers (Food4You) who often provide meals for Croydon Hall hirers & know our kitchen well. You can decide which meals you want them to provide and plan your own menus and food types directly with them. They will also make packed lunches or provide a drop off service or a full 24 hour meal package.

Q: What is the best way to travel to Croydon Hall?
A: By car is the best. We are 1.5 miles from the bus route. However there is a lot of information on our website about all forms of transportation. Also a downloadable local road map & local taxi phone numbers.
The local roads are narrow so do not book large coaches. Some gorups arrive in mini buses.

Q: Can we bring our own wines and beers to our event?
A: Yes you can. However you must not allow minors to have or be served with any alcoholic drinks.

Q: Can we have music at our party?
A: Yes, We have had several bands playing in our big hall and our Zen lounge. We ask that amplfied music stops at 23:00 in the big hall.
There are music systems in 2 of the function rooms.

Q: Do you have space for dancing?
A: Yes - both Rinzai Hall and the Zen room are used for dancing.
The Zen room is large enough for 50 people (& a band) for dancing if the furniture is removed and Rinzai is large enough for over 100 people.

The Drawing Room
The Drawing Room
On the ground floor in the heart of the main house, the drawing room is wonderful bright room with the original wood parquet flooring and a magnificent bay window overlooking the glorious gardens. It is furnished with large sumptuous sofas and the perfect room for you and your guests to relax. Alternatively, this room can be used as a function room with the furniture removed or moved aside. A door links it to the dining room and has proven a popular layout for many celebrations.

The Old Barn
The Old Barn is very spacious making it a perfect venue for large gatherings, meetings and one-day conferences and an ideal space for dance, music and theatre workshops. It can accommodate up to 100 people. With a gorgeous honey-coloured wood floor, it has a high vaulted ceiling and large windows.
Room dimensions: 55 x 30 ft or 160 sq m.

Spa
Soak your tired muscles in the jacuzzi, relax in the steam room and watch your worries evaporate, use the Swedish sauna to get rid of those toxins or recharge your body with solar energy in the Infra Red sauna. Our modern spa is available to pre-book at a small additional cost of £70.00 inc VAT per 2 hour session for up to 15 people.

History
Situated in the timeless beauty of the Exmoor National Park and built over a century ago by an eccentric German count, the house has a colourful history and has seen many changes over the years.n 1198 the Croydon Estate was home to a community of Cistercian monks, part of Cleeve Abbey. Since the departure of the monks, the site of Croydon Hall has seen a variety of uses from a feudal farm to a residential school for girls. An even wider variety of residents have passed through the grounds, including a magistrate who possibly used the property as a courtroom, to war time evacuees and, of course, the eccentric German Count. It was the latter who was responsible for many of the beautiful garden features which include the Italian garden and the various water features that can be found within the grounds.
Through the centuries, events and people have shaped the story – and the appearance – of Croydon Hall, giving it a unique warmth and soul that is immediately felt as you enter this truly beautiful building.

Catering
The kitchen at Croydon Hall is fully equipped as a comercial kitchen and can cater for up to 100 diners. Do it yourself or hire our approved local caterers to provide meals and menus that you decide with them. Contact us for more information.

Help available
Our Caretaker and housekeeper live in the Gardener's Cottage next to the main house and are available to hire for cleaning, washing up, doing laundry and other services. We also have other part time housekeepers able to provide table serving or washing up & cleaning in the public rooms & kitchen .Minimum shifts 4 hours at rates agreed when a booking is made.

Bedrooms
Since Croydon Hall is a large house with up to 70 beds in different types for rooms we will provide a room chart and a room plan and advice (once you have made your booking) if required for assigning guests to rooms.
All beds will be made up with lien and towels. Extra towels are available if required. Rooms are not serviced for bookings of less than 6 days.
