About the place:
As the name implies, this is the edge of the world. You can view down into Kealakekua Bay where James Cook met his demise in the late 1700's and easily imagine his awe of this island and the natives' awe of him and his ship. Five acres offers the quietude one should expect in such a beautiful setting. Tropical fruit trees are there for your picking, and macadamia nut trees and coffee plants are there for my picking, but you can help if you want to. There's also a tree house in the ever-being-built stage perched in a mango tree for the young and young at heart who really want to get away.
South Kona is known for its rural flavor. People who live here call it the real Hawaii - as opposed to the hustle and bustle of Waikiki or the resorts to the north. Be sure to let me know your special interests (whale watching, kayaking, volcano watching, scuba, etc.) so that I can help you build them into your stay on the Big Island.
The Edge of the World is a modern, comfortable and tranquil bed and breakfast with amazing views down the Kona Coast and out to the Pacific Ocean. This is a boutique, upscale B&B with downscale prices. The house has various treasures from Dr. Weigelt's travels around the world, like masks from Borneo, that keep away the evil spirits and antique Asian furniture.
As your hosts are experienced world travelers themselves, they know what it's like to be on the road and offer many free services accordingly. Complimentary laundry service for stays of three days or more, free use of snorkel and beach equipment and beach towels, free use of the host's computer for a quick email check, and lots of good advice on things to see and do while you are on the Big Island can be expected.
Great snorkeling and hiking near by. A great place to catch a sunset, swim with dolphins, watch the whales, play golf, or just relax and watch the papaya grow.

The Crow's Nest room:
The Crow's Nest is on the second floor of the house and has a spectacular view of Kealekekua Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It has a private lanai, individual satellite TV, DVD, phone, private bath, refrigerator, wall to wall carpet, and king size bed. It is our most popular room and a favorite of honeymooners, artists and poets
|
The Pacific Room:
The Pacific Room, on the main floor of the house, is a spacious bedroom with a huge private bathroom, king size bed, TV, VCR and DVD, wall to wall carpet, refrigerator, phone and opens on the long lanai which wraps around the back of the house looking out to the ocean. There is a cozy, semi-private area on the lanai for guests staying in the Pacific room. There is also a fine ocean view from the bedroom.
|
Nut Room:
The Nut Room is slightly smaller than the other two rooms but still quite large, wall to wall carpet, has one double bed and one twin bed, no TV or phone (however guests are welcome to use the ones in the living room). The private bathroom is two steps down the hallway. It overlooks the orchard and has a wonderful skylight
|
Facilities:
It's a ten minute drive to a modern, free public swimming pool and tennis courts, ten minutes to some of the world's greatest snorkeling, and twenty minutes to ancient archeological sites and ethnobotanical garden, or follow me around my orchard while I talk with the plants. Play badminton in the front yard. Free use of the washing machine, snorkeling equipment, coolers, and beach gear, and discount rates on the ocean kayak. Limited refrigerator space is available for guests. Free internet use to keep in touch with people at home. Satellite TV, and VCR are also available for guests.
