Wool Cottage - Cosy rural retreat. 3.5 AAAstar rating
Wool Cottage is the original homestead of our working farm having been built in the 1930's but then fully renovated recently to include a new bathroom and kitchen.
Located adjacent to the shearing shed, this cosy cottage is ideal for a family or even just for 2 who like a larger unit to relax in.
The lounge room has an open fire, while the dining room seats all guest comfortably. The kitchen has a gas stove with 4 burners and oven, and is fully equipped with cooking utensils, crockery etc, . The bathroom features a full size bath with shower over. There is also a washing machine and dryer for guests use.
The 3 bedrooms can sleep up to a maximum of 9 people, with a queen bed in the front bedroom, 2 singles and 1 bunk in the 2nd bedroom and 2 singles in the 3rd. A pair of foam buns will make up into another double bed for any overflow. The cottage is fully made up with linen & towels.
A short walk from here takes you into the main paddocks of the farm where sheep and their alpacas can be seen, and in the evenings and early mornings many kangaroos can be seen grazing as well. Occassionally the emu flock also join in.

There is just so much to do in the surrounding Walpole Wilderness. Do some research and planning before you arrive, ask for our printable documents for a wealth of information and ideas about attractions you can visit, activities to pursue, restaurants, wineries ... scenic drives or when you arrive ask at reception for the latest information and special events.
For walkers on the Bibbulmun Track, free delivery or pickup is available (conditions apply). Prior Booking is required although 1 days notice is usually sufficient.
Enjoy the local delights each day, then come back to Ayr Sailean to sit back and relax in the quiet country surrounds.
Suggested Day Trips / Activities:
Temp the Pallet - Wineries, Chocolate, Mead & Honey Icecream, Cider & Toffee, Cheeses, Marron - perhaps that will take at least 2 or more days - plus numerous cafes & restaurants.
Feast the Eyes - Natural wonders from Banksia Camp, Mandalay Beach, Conspicuous Lookout, Mt Frankland, Fernhook Falls, Hilltop Lookout, Circular Pool and the Giant Tingle Tree, all to compliment the Tree Top Walk & Valley of the Giants. Artistic Bent - Swarbrick Art Loop, Potteries, Art Galleries, Sculptures
Relax at the beach or on a river with or without a fishing rod, or explore by canoe.
Hiking on the Bibbulmun Track or up Mt Mehniup or Mt Frankland
Some farm activities occur from time to time and you are welcome to watch or join in. Guests are welcome to explore the farm at any time. Brutus and Goldie, the alpacas, can be seen with their charges, the sheep flock. Kangaroos and often emus abound in the early mornings and evenings, and wildflowers are prevalent in the native bush of the farm. Ask at reception for a map.
Craft classes are available from the resident teacher at Ayr Sailean. Ask at reception for details of classes on offer, or form a group to spend a weekend of crafting. The Camp Kitchen has been designed to cater for crafting groups, be it Embroidery, Patchwork, Parchment, Painting etc.
