The kitchens
The main kitchen is on the upper level. Combining our local Macrocarpa wood and stainless steel, it is a dream come true with a modern gas stove top, electic oven and microwave. Large pot drawers, dish washing machine, firdge, and all the utensils needed for cooking a meal are there. There is plenty of crockery, cutlery, and glasses and most importantly a cork screw to open a bottle of our Saltings Estate wine!!
Downstairs, on ground level, the second kitchen is smaller but has a gas stove top and a microwave. There is a dish washing machine, firdge, and all the utensils needed for cooking a meal. There is plenty of crockery, cutlery, and glasses and of course a wine bottle opener to open a bottle of our Saltings Estate wine.

Personal recommendations
There are so many lovely things to do here but the following are a taste of my favourite things. The walk from The Saltings
to Horseshoe Bay in Sandspit. Strolling around our vineyard or just relaxing on the deck at The Saltings with a nice cup of coffee or a glass of our wine! Visiting many of the art galleries and potteries close by is a fun thing to do on holiday. In Matakana we are exceedingly fortunate to have The Vintry Wine Bar which serves only locally grown wine - a real point of difference. You know when you drink anything there it is from the good earth of the Matakana region. There are many good wineries to visit in this area and most have a restaurant attached to them. Check them out on our web site. A fun thing to do on Saturday mornings is to visit the organic markets at Matakana. Bring home some amazing fresh produce and cook up a storm in your lovely holiday home. The amazing Brick Bay Sculpture Trail and vineyard where you can also enjoy a delicious lunch platter and their wine. There are some wonderful restaurants in Matakana - Plume Restaurant at Heron's Flight Vineyard is a recent development. The new MMK Restaurant in Matakana is situated below the cinema complex and serves great food and of course Ascension Vineyard is always popular. The Brookview Tea House and The Dragon Fly and Cossi Cafes are a must visit too.
Just a two minute drive from The Saltings brings you to the Sandspit Wharf where the ferries to Kawau Island depart. This Island was the home of Sir George Grey, the first Governor General of New Zealand. His home was called "Mansion House" and is open to visitors for a small fee. The grounds are lovely. If you are into diving and anything to do with water, go to Leigh (home of Goat Island Marine Reserve) where you can go scuba diving or view the fish through a glass bottom boat. Not far from Matakana is the beuatifully preserved Tawharanui Regional Park. This is a wonderful spot for a good walk or swimming on one of the shelterd beaches. Good little surf beach there too. It is truly breath-takingly beautiful.
