Karen and Mark welcome you in to our home to use as a base for your holiday. We endeavour to provide you with a relaxed, comfortable environment in our rural surroundings. We will cater for your needs as you require and whilst you need to book your stay, while you are here we are quite flexible in adjusting to fit in with your requirments.

Karapiro World Rowing Championships
Our home is situated just 20 minutes country drive from Lake Karapiro, the venue for the 2010 World Rowing Championships. For this event we could cater for 6 people in our home and we have the possibility of catering for a larger group (total of up to 14) with the extras in a nearby neighbouring home

Rugby World Cup
We think our home location, central in the upper North Island, will be attractive to people or groups who are wanting to follow countries at several of the venues. Combined with the attraction of the Rugby World Cup, there are many popular tourist locations within easy driving distance to fill in the gaps between games. For this event we could cater for 6 people in our home and we have the possibility of catering for a larger group (total of up to 14) with the extras in a nearby neighbouring home

Hobbiton
10 mins to the Lord of the Rings Hobbiton Village.

Dinning
Matamata Township (10 mins North) has become reknowned for its cafes, restaurants and bars. One of these was recently voted NZ's best.
10mins South to Tirau and Okoiririe provides more dinning choices.

Shopping
Locally we have some good shopping.
Tirau has a very different sort of shopping experience catering for a very boutique market from clothing, antiques, to cheese and wine.
Hamilton, Tauranga, Taupo and Rotorua are all popular tourist shopping destinations.

Cheese
Locally we have Kaimaia Cheese, where you can go to see cheese being made, sample and purchase the various delights on offer.
They do all this in a cafe environment which we can highly reccommend.

Sporting Attractions
5mins to Matamata Horse Racing Track.
1 hour north to Hampton Downs International Motor Racing Track.
1 hour south to Taupo International Motor Racing Track.
15mins north to Waharoa Airfield for Gliding
20mins to the base of Waireri water falls where you can extend yourself with a walk to the top.
25mins to Lake Karapiro on the Waikato River for watersports including rowing, kayaking, swimming, skiing, boating and sailing, etc.

The Coromandel Peninsular
Nature at its best ... Coromandel has it all .... mountains, rivers, water falls, camping, tramping, native bush, hunting, shooting and fishing, golden sand beaches, all water sports, the Whangamata Beach Hop, the Whitianga Festival of Speed. It really is a wonderful playground and begins just an hour North.

Kaimai Ranges
Karla Homestay has splendid views of the Kaimai Ranges and nearby Mamaku Ranges. Between 10 and 30 mins there are many walking tracks through native bush as well as the Wairere Falls.

Historic Thames, Paeroa and Waihi
All within an hour these towns were amongst the earliest settled in NZ. Thames and Waihi have strong links to the early gold mining days with a fully operational gold mine in Waihi. Paeroa is best known as the home of the soft drink Lemon & Paeroa.

Waitomo Caves
1 1/2 hrs to the west is the Waitomo Gloworm caves. There is also black water rafting here and a nearby walk-through bird avery and Kiwi sanctuary.

During Summer .... The Beaches
The Coromandel beaches are within 1 1/2 hours. Tauranga, Mt Maunganui and Papamoa beaches are 45 mins. Raglan Surf beach is 1 1/2 hrs to the West Coast.

During Winter ..... Snow Skiing
The winter playground of Mt Ruapehu is 2 3/4 hours south with three fully serviced ski fields on the slopes.

Equine
Matamata district is the equine capital of NZ with many of the leading stables, trainers and jockeys based in the region.
