What are the local attractions?
The cottage looks over an international, coastal golf course which is a must for golfers and tourists if only for the views. There is a resort restaurant and award winning vineyard within walking distance and horsetrekking, shooting, tennis are some other activities on offer there. There are 5 main beaches nearby with different conditions and features. There are flat beaches that are child friendly and good for gathering shellfish and surf casting from, picturesque bays for kayaking and sunbathing, boat launching beaches and pristine and remote beaches for strolling along when you may not see any footprints other than your own! Dolphins are often sighted from some beaches as they play in the surf. There is a mini golf course, cafe, bar, shops, dive shop and information, tour booking office all within walking distance. Naturally, there are many places to walk.

And attractions in the region?
Well, too many to name but most are in the compendium provided at the cottage. This is a great base to explore Northland with it's wild west coast beaches including 90 Mile Beach with it's giant sand dunes, North Cape at the tip of New Zealand where the oceans meet, ancient kauri forests, historic villages, vineyards, museums and craft trails. Take a tour driving up 90 Mile Beach or self drive (cautions and advice on this are in the cottage compendium) and drive up Te Paki stream and toboggan down the huge sand dunes. Toboggans can be hired locally. Take a fishing charter, scenic helicopter flight or go helifishing. The peninsula is about 20kms out to sea so it has excellent fishing and diving for all abilities.

What can I expect at the cottage?
Well, this cottage was built to provide a relaxing, well equipped retreat for a couple. Since then, we have started a family so now it also has equipment for an infant like a portacot with linen, highchair, infant swing, baby monitor, pram and baby backpack. Good quality linen and towels are provided as well as soaps, laundry detergent, cleaning equipment, and some basic provisions such as dried herbs and spices. There are plenty of books, CDs, puzzles, games, maps and information provided and an entertainment system and TV in the bedroom as well as the lounge if you ged bored of the ocean view from the comfortable, queen sized, bed. This is set up to be a home away from home but also to retain a holiday bach feeling so you should expect a cottage that combines a bit of luxury with some old comfy bach items. There is a great indoor outdoor flow and the deck is a great place to dine and sample the fantastic local wines. There are extras that you mightn't expect in the kitchen like a rice cooker, yoghurt maker, kitchen scales because these are all things we like to have on hand. So you can arrive and still bake or cook up a storm if you like. There is a BBQ, fish cleaning bench for your prize catch to be prepared and hammocks and beach chairs.

Are the locals friendly?
YES! Of course! You will get smiles and waves as you enjoy the area. The local community centre often has events on which you should take advantage of and the local fire station often hosts social fishing contests with great BBQ and Hangi meals to conclude. All are welcome.
