Our character house has panoramic harbour views and is situated across the road from a small sandy beach. The whole house is available as a Self Contained option for short or long term stay. Explore the Otago Peninsula with its many walkways, beaches and local arts and crafts.

QUALITY SELF CONTAINED ACCOMMODATION WITH PANORAMIC HARBOUR VIEWS

Chy-an-Dowr is also available as whole house self contained quality accommodation with wonderful harbour views. We are located on scenic Otago Peninsula, halfway between Dunedin City and the Royal Albatross and Penguin Colonies and a 20 minute drive from Dunedin City. Downstairs is a large lounge and dining area, kitchen and another room with guest computer. Upstairs Chy-an-Dowr has two guest bedrooms; the Canterbury suite with a king size bed and ensuite bathroom; the Peninsula suite with a Queen bedroom and private bathroom. We can take up to 4 guests, but Chy-an-Dowr is also perfect for a couple.

CHY-AN-DOWR

Chy-an-Dowr was originally built as a single storey general store in approx. 1905. The store was named the “Manapai Cash Store” and owned by Archibald Weir selling groceries and provisions. In approx. 1925 the existing house was built above and around the existing store. It remained a general store until the 1970’s when it ceased trading and was converted to a private home. In 1993 Chy-an-Dowr opened up as a Bed & Breakfast, welcoming many guests from all over the world.
We are now also offering Chy-an-Dowr as a whole house self contained option, ideal for a group of up to 4 guests, but also for a couple wishing privacy, a romantic retreat or being able to self cater. Hosts have attached private accommodation at rear of house.

SCENIC OTAGO PENINSULA

The scenic Otago Peninsula is located along the Dunedin harbour. The Otago Peninsula has an abundance of wildlife. Visit the Royal Albatross Colony, the rare Yellow-Eyed Penguins and little Blue Penguins. The Peninsula also has many walkways, sandy beaches and Arts and Crafts. See Larnach Castle, the Marine Studies Aquarium or Glenfalloch Gardens. Dunedin City is nearby with shops, restaurants, golf courses, cinemas and theatre.
