Notes on holiday rentals:
Prices shown are for the property per week, and include electricity, cooking gas, water and winter heating.
Bed linen and bathroom towels are included in the rental price. Towels for the swimming pool can be provided for a small additional charge.
Cleaning and linen changes are done on Saturdays, weekly.
Rentals are normally from Saturday to Saturday, but alternative changeover days can be considered if they fit with the overall schedule.
Outside the summer holiday season shorter term rentals (e.g. 2,3 or 4 nights) are possible: please contact for details.

Garden:
The garden covers a total of over 5000m2 (approx 1.5 acres). The lawn in front of the main house is shaded by lime and willow trees, and is used in warm weather for eating out. Beyond it is a level playing area for badminton, volleyball or football (equipment provided), next to the heated salt water swimming pool. Boules, table tennis, bar football, darts and bicycles are also available for guests’ use.
The heated salt water swimming pool is 11x5 metres with roman steps, and is 1.5 metres deep throughout. Sun-loungers are available on the patio surrounding the swimming pool, a real sun trap in warm weather, and there are changing facilities, a shower and WC in the adjoining pool house.
At the far end of the garden the orchard, well-stocked with fruit-trees, leads down to the river Boutonne, a class 1 fishing river.
A guest barbeque is available for all our guests to use. We are happy to provide help with all catering arrangements, please contact us with your requirements.

Secure garaging for motorbikes and bicycles:
Secure, under-cover garaging can be provided for guests arriving with motorbikes or bicycles.

The ground floor comprises:
A large dining-room (5 metres by 7.5 metres) with table seating 12 people, wood-burning stove (logs supplied in winter), piano and collection of books, toys and board games. Two high chairs are available.
Guest lounge with TV (video/DVD player), large collection of videos and DVDs and music centre.
Large, fully-fitted kitchen with 5-burner gas stove, microwave and fridge-freezer.
Utility room with dishwasher, washing machine (7kg capacity), tumble dryer, iron and ironing board.
Bathroom with bath/shower and WC.

Cottage attached:
The owner's house is a cottage attached to an old bread oven, across the way from the main house. Here you will also find the two cats: Mitten (successor to Freddie) and Fifi.

Location:
The house is situated in a tranquil corner of the village of Chérigné in Poitou-Charentes, one of the sunniest regions in France. Being at the southernmost end of the department of Deux-Sèvres, it is close to the neighbouring departments of Charente and Charente-Maritime, and within easy reach of the Atlantic coast. The airports of Poitiers and La Rochelle are less than an hour’s drive away.

Local area:
Ideal for enthusiasts of bird-watching, history, music, fishing, or cycling in gently undulating Poitou-Charentes countryside. A wide range of local attractions to suit all ages are within easy reach.

Leisure activities:
The gently rolling countryside is ideal for cyclists who prefer their bike rides not too strenuous, and there are pleasant local walks. This is the best way to observe the varied local birdlife, which includes black redstarts, golden orioles, hoopoes, and buzzards.
Cycling:
There are a number of marked cycle routes in the Department, the nearest of which is a 15 minute cycle away, or you can find your own route through the quiet lanes and tracks. We have some bicycles which we are happy to lend to guests, or they can be hired at Niort.
Fishing:
The Boutonne, which runs past the end of our garden, is a class 1 fishing river. It is stocked with brown and rainbow trout, and is also rich in other species of white fish, and in eels. Holiday fishing permits, costing around 30 euros for 2 weeks, can be obtained in Brioux-sur-Boutonne (4km). Fishing is also possible at the lake at the Chateau de Javarzay, which is regularly stocked with carp.
Golf:
For golf enthusiasts, there are 4 golf courses within an hour's drive. The nearest is the municipal golf course at Niort (18 hole). A little further north are Golf du Petit Chene in Mazieres en Gatine (18 hole, par 72) and the Golf Club Chateau des Forges, the only 27 hole golf course in the region. An equal distance to the south is Golf de Saintonge near Saintes (18 hole, par 68). For all these golf courses, expect to pay around 30 to 40 euros for round of golf in high season.
Horse Riding:
There are 5 riding stables within 30 minutes drive.
Canoeing:
Canoes can be hired for use on the river Boutonne at St Jean d’Angély (30 minutes by car). You can also canoe on the lake at Lambon near Celles-sur-Belle (35 minutes), which also has pedalos for hire.
Go-Karting:
There is a go-karting track at St Jean d'Angley (30 mins by car), which is open every afternoon.
