Important note: A place to retreat to nature
Buttongrass retreat is a place to escape from the hassles of modern life for a few days. Get away from television, phones and 240 volt electricity and enjoy some peace and quiet. 12 volt solar electricity operates the lights and music. There is usually limited 240 volt electricity, enough to charge a mobile phone or camera but not sufficient to run a laptop computer for more than an hour a day.
|
Eco-Responsible Features
Ample twelve volt solar and wind generated electricity operates lights.
Limited 240 volt electricity runs CD and DVD players. You can charge phones, computers etc but you cannot run hairdryers, sleep machines etc. Overloading the electric system will blow the fuse and you will have no 240 volt power for the rest of your visit! Hot water is principally from solar and wood heating. There is gas backup in case of extended cloudy periods.
Cooking is by the gas hotplate/oven or on the wood hotplate/oven.
Water is predominantly from natural sources (we do not add chemicals and during summer you might need to be gentle with water usage).
|
Well appointed comfort
Inside, the rooms are spacious and well appointed: every window brings a new picture; little touches include DVD and CD players with IPod dock, telescope, selection of native flowers, wood fired bakers oven and a reading nook beside the living area.

Relax and unwind at your choice of quality accommodation in the region, choose from the many beautiful walks through pristine forests and exquisite beaches, Try your hand at fishing, sailing, boating, diving or stroll along the white, sandy beaches that epitomise Tasmania's Far South region.
The island’s natural features blend and weave their way with you on your journey to the Far South. The wild, rugged essence of mountains comes down from the west, a legacy of dramatic coastlines and alpine tarns, to turn at the southern tip, away from the bracing, yet alluring force of the great Southern Ocean - to the more sheltered calm of the Tasman Sea.
