Local Attractions
Just 50 minutes drive from our Nelson bed and breakfast, the dazzling golden sands and clear blue seas of the famous Abel Tasman National Park's coastal track lure visitors from all over the world. For those wishing to really get away from it all, the Abel Tasman also offers a much more difficult inland track which is suitable for more experienced trampers. Our Nelson bed and breakfast, Athenry Lodge is also just 50 minutes drive from the Nelson Province's two other National Parks.

Background
Athenry Lodge was named largely as a tribute to the owners' love of Irish music, culture and history. The famous ballad, 'The Fields of Athenry' was sung at the lodge's official opening in early 2004, when it was pointed out that due to the lodge's unique and durable construction method and materials it was destined to stand solid and proud on the Waimea Plains for many centuries. The lodge was constructed by the owners' son, builder Emerson Mytton, with dad Brett weighing in as chief assistant, adding greatly to the sense of achievement and pride the owners have in their high quality bed and breakfast accommodation premises.

World of Wearable Arts & Collectible Cars Compex
Of course, guests at our boutique Nelson bed and breakfast establishment can look forward to much more than Nelson's superb natural environment. The lodge is just a few minutes from where the very first 'World of Wearable Arts' show was held, in a tent in a field at Spring Grove, just south of Brightwater. The World of WearableArt and Collectible Car Complex, 15 minutes drive from Athenry Lodge in Nelson, is now the world famous event's permanent showcase, featuring winning garments, past and present, from the annual WOW awards show.

|
LocalWineries
As well, Nelson has a burgeoning boutique wine industry that has produced many award-winning wines in recent years, and a host of renowned restaurants and cafes where guests can enjoy a taste of the Nelson region.
