Nearby Places of Interest
As well as all the beautiful spots and places of interest in the Hyeres/Carqueiranne area, there are some “little gems” in the countryside and mountains near by. If you have time you may like to explore some of these routes.
Route 1 San Tropez
From Hyeres take the coast road following the signs to San Tropez. En route visit the old village of Bormes Les Mimosa and the popular resort of La Lavendou. The road then hugs the coast and provides spectacular views of both the sea and the mountains.
For the return trip from San Tropez follow the signs to Cogolin and use the N98 country road across the Massif de Maures. The small village of La Mole provides a café stop if needed.
Route 2 Les Arcs and Lorgues
These villages are situated just north of the NICE motorway south of the town of Draguignan. Historically interesting and surrounded by some pretty scenery they are good examples of the old mountain towns and villages of the south of Provence.
Route 3 Sollies-Ville
An old and very pretty mountain village situated in the massif behind Toulon. It is an easy half hours drive away and well worth a visit. The views from the old battlements across the valleys are superb whilst in the village and it’s beautiful old church time seems to stand still.
The other big attraction is the “Le Tournebride” restaurant in the village square. This is a really special find and in itself worth the trip to Sollies-Ville. The kitchen, which is situated in the middle of the tables, does not have an oven because all the food is cooked infront of you on the open fire in the massive old fireplace. Lunch, which is a very reasonable set price, is multi coursed and there is no menu – the food just keeps arriving. This is a very popular restaurant, so I would suggest you go midweek as getting a table at the weekend might prove difficult.
Taking the NICE motorway, which branches off the motorway to Toulon, head a short distance north towards Cuers. Take the La Farlede/Sollies Ville exit and follow the signs to Sollies-Ville. The road climbs up the mountain to the village itself on the edge of which is parking. The other route to this village is from Hyeres via La Crau and it’s wineries.
